Blood Donors

Sorry about the bad English in this, I was very ill when I wrote it. Give me a week and it’ll be sorted :)

Once somebody like me starts needing regular blood transfusions, you don’t really realise how important giving blood actually. When I was first diagnosed I was being given blood very regularly and I was having around a couple of units as a week. As I get better, I am relying on blood donors less but still very regularly. I’d like to thank the amazing people who give blood to help people like me… without you i’d be very poorly.

Platelets are very important too! If you can donate blood, it is more than likely you can donate these too! Until I very first got admitted into Colchester Hospital… i’d never heard of one of these but I needed a transfusion because my level was 1! They are part of your blood that provides clots, so when you cut yourself, they stop your bleeding in 2 minutes say if a person with low platelets might take 5 minutes. They are also what heal brooises. I need a lot of these transfusions. When I was first poorly, I needed once or twice a week… now as I get better my body is making its own but because of the certain treatment I am having for my Aplastic Anaemia… platelets are needed every day! Currently, my level needs to be above 20 so I am having many platelet transfusions, once every couple of times. It’s funny that before we’d never heard of these and now it’s all we hear, just like we’d never heard of or seen anybody with Aplastic Anaemia and we’ve now seen quite a few!

Thank You! Blood Donors, you are amazing!

Please give blood. It could help somebody a lot… :)
